Privacy Policy

Texas Treasure Map has no accounts and no advertising. It does not sell anything about you, and nothing it collects is linked to your name, because there is no name to link it to. It does measure how the app is used, including recordings of app sessions.

How the app is used

The app sends usage data to PostHog, a product analytics service. Three kinds of thing are sent:

  • Named events, when something happens that matters: a route is planned, a direction is chosen, a sale is added or dropped, a route is handed to Google Maps, or the listings fail to load. These carry counts and settings, such as how many stops and how wide your direction was. They do not carry addresses.
  • Screens and taps, recorded automatically.
  • Session recordings, which replay what was tapped and how long it took. Text and images are masked in these recordings, so the addresses on screen, including yours, are covered over rather than recorded.

All of it is tied to a random identifier generated on your device, not to you. There is no account for it to be attached to. Deleting the app ends it.

Your location

The app asks for your location while you are using it, so it can show which estate sales are near you and plan a driving route from where you are. You can decline, and the app still works. You set a starting point by address instead.

Your coordinates are used on your device to sort sales by distance, and sent to our routing server along with the coordinates of the sales to calculate drive times. We send coordinates and nothing else: no name, no device identifier, no account.

When you type an address into the search box, what you typed is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to turn it into a place. That happens only while you are searching.

We do not store a history of where you have been. The app keeps your current starting point so the screen still makes sense when you reopen it, and that is on your phone.

What is kept on your phone

  • Places you save, such as Home.
  • Whether you have seen the walkthrough.
  • The most recent copy of the day's sale listings, so the app still opens where there is no signal.

All of this is stored on the device only. It is never uploaded. Deleting the app deletes it.

Listings

The app downloads listings from our server. This sends no information about you.

Handing off to maps

When you send a route to Apple Maps or Google Maps, the app opens that app with the addresses of your stops. From that point their privacy policy applies, not ours. We have no visibility into what happens after the handoff.

This website

The website uses Google Tag Manager to load Google's measurement tools, such as Google Analytics. They use cookies to count visits and see which pages people use, along with general details like the type of device and approximate area. Google processes this under its own privacy policy. You can block it with your browser's cookie settings or Google'sopt-out add-on. The website has no accounts and never asks for your name or email.

AI assistants (our MCP server)

AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT can look up estate sales through our MCP server at mcp.texastreasuremap.com. When you ask an assistant about sales, it sends the server what it needs to answer: a city or map coordinates, dates, a distance, or the ids of the sales you picked. It does not send your name, your account with the assistant, or your conversation.

The server answers and forgets. It does not store your questions or keep an access log. To keep the service from being overloaded, it holds the network address a request came from in memory for a few minutes to count requests; that is never written to disk. If something goes wrong, it logs the time and the error, not what was asked. What the assistant does with our answer is covered by that assistant's own privacy policy.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects nothing that would identify anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or where it is sent, the date at the top of this page will change and the new version will be here before the change ships in the app.
